Mentor Guidelines

We are so grateful for your time, generosity, and partnership in supporting our clients. As a mentor or teacher at Central Care Mission (CCM), your involvement is vital to helping our clients grow. The following guidelines ensure transparency and trust, providing a safe, supportive environment for everyone. These boundaries also help us build genuine relationships with our clients and eliminate any potential for misunderstanding.

THINGS TO KNOW:

  • The greatest gift you can give a client at CCM is a sense of community and prayer.
  • At CCM, clients have everything they need, from toiletries and clothes to food, bedding, and transportation, except for cigarettes.
  • Before giving any material items like clothing, food, shoes, cigarettes, or electronics, please contact our office. We want to avoid situations where items may be used for bartering, which is not permitted at CCM.
  • Some foods can cause false positives in our drug tests, so we kindly ask you to refrain from bringing homemade food donations.
  • Want to plan a fun outing for clients, such as biking, a beach trip, or canoeing? Coordinate your ideas with our staff by calling (407) 299-6146, x 206. We’ll help make it happen!
  • If something about a client’s story doesn’t sit right, don’t hesitate to ask direct questions or bring them to a staff member for further discussion.
  • We always appreciate fresh ideas, but please keep in mind that our staff operates 24/7 with limited resources. We do everything possible to deliver the core program efficiently and effectively.
  • Confidentiality is key! Please treat any information shared by staff or clients as private and avoid discussing it on social media or with anyone outside of CCM.
  • Just as we background check our clients, we also perform checks on our teachers, volunteers, and staff to ensure a safe, supportive environment.
  • Remember, while we guide and support clients through their journey, the real work is up to them.

PLEASE DO:

  • Let the client know that if you provide your phone number to them, you’ll report any conversations to staff.
  • Notify staff at (407) 299-6146, x 206 if a client reaches out to you by phone.
  • If you have a job opportunity for a client, please check with Sonja or a staff member first.
  • Before bringing donations, give us a quick call to check what we currently need. Storage space is limited, and we want to ensure everything fits.
  • Always contact staff before arriving on campus, even if you’re early for a class or Mentor Night.

DO NOT:

  • Give clients money, gift cards, or any items of value.
  • Offer clients a job without checking with staff.
  • Have them work at your home. All employment must include Workman’s Compensation.
  • Offer them housing if they leave CCM.
  • Offer assistance in finding employment if they leave CCM before graduation.
  • Provide transportation if they leave CCM before completing the program.
  • Give clients a Bible—each client already has one.
  • Baptize a client.

At Central Care Mission, we pride ourselves on creating a family-like atmosphere while ensuring professional standards. Your role is crucial, and we ask you to view your time here as if you were volunteering at a high-end clinical facility—because the lives of our clients depend on it.
